Last week we looked at lifting the lid on spending carefully, which leads on to this week’s theme of having the answers to important questions around finance, data and returns. 

Despite numbers being extremely useful pointers, too many marketing and BD people tell us that they are scared of them. Reframing our relationship with figures can have huge benefits for us as individuals and for our organisations. 

At the very least, you and your team need to be able to talk fluently about key financial metrics – and to link marketing and BD activity to firm-wide strategy. 

Once you’ve agreed the metrics, you will be able to demonstrate the value of your work more easily, clearly and effectively. It will also help others to see how much you are contributing – which can only be a good thing when it comes to salary review.
